It started as a fairly ordinary week,until Dry Riser recieved an invite to particpate in the Play Music Band Olympics.i know what your thinking,bands and drinking yes,bands and olympics!!

six insane events was the order of the day Dry Riser battled against Raid in Table tennis...i know its not very rock n roll,but how often are you sat in studio waiting for something to do? your skills at table tennis,pool or any other games available become honed.....they have to.

it got more raucous as we moved into throw the microphone-shot putt stylie,then lift the beer barrels (weightlifting in case you wondered) yes they were full at the start anyway!

Then on to some seriously dangerous stage diving,which if memory serves me saw a high flying swallow dive by the Dry Riser Bassist-still on a high from his table tennis victory and smelling medals-how he played later in the day is still a wonder.The same could be said of the drummer who held 2 beer barrels shoulder high for a week...i look forward to the pictures in this month Issue

The Lads from Raid went on to take the final 2 events (javelin)throw the coke bottle at the singer,and to Dry Risers shame the drinking relay,but it was not enough to stop the boys From DR.taking the gold.

I know thier manager now has them in serious training for further drinking events,starting from that evening.

All in all it was a good laugh and we wait in anticipation of the feature,so help the PMs owner recoup some of the money and buy next months issue-oh and get the free CD with it with Dry Risers Febuary release "DUST "included

The days entertainment generously hosted by the guys at Play Music and the Forum Tunbridge Wells,it was quite literally as much fun as you can have with your clothes on......mmmm.perhaps a female band olympics needs hosting and the winners could meet in a face off? or something!

What is it all about?

you work your socks off,get your rocks off,go to bed and do it all again.

Every once in a while something extraordinary happens and by some inexplicable turn of events you have a great day,or a brilliant gig, actually that happens to us all the time!

Putney was a stormin gig, had to open the show a we were new to the halfmoon,but its such a cool venue,people actually go there to listen to new music-what agreat idea!

Instead of having served up for you,by the internet or MTV go out watch a gig a venue you havent been to before.

On an average night they will be showing 3-5 bands and maybe only one you have heard of,pay your 5 quid at the door and go in and see and hear something you you never heard before!

You could get lucky and see the debut of someone who will go on to become icons in the music world,not bad for a fiver.

Oh and while your there watch all the bands give them encouragement,you can tell them after at the bar they were shit if you want,but while your an audience at least clap and thank them for putting thier egos on the line,for you to destroy or not.

so there it is what do you think,are we now so dependant on having everything spoon fed we cant get up off our arse and go out socialise and have a good time at a gig,just because we dont know the band-one day you May! and you will say i was going to see them you know when they were nothing,but i couldnt be bothered.

i saw them when they played the xxxx club to 50people they were good then ,i had a drink with them at the bar and still email them from time to time,i know what story i would rather tell!

After their recent success in the Live Sessions MSN final, where they supported Boy kill Boy. Dry Riser played a debut gig at the Fly on the 25^th November

So don’t beetle about, fly down there, ant see what’s going down you worms, bee seen at the next live gig from DRY RISER, if you can tune into Radio sunlight this Thursday 7 th December, they are live again on the internet, playing and being interviewed.

Hoxton the return 30/10/06

A night of drunkenness ensued at what should have been an AA meeting at a secret venue.

Unfortunately the meeting was overrun by excited revellers listening to what they said were the “the best f****ng band around”

Whilst I have little interest in the art of rock n roll I am more of classical buff I found my self strangely lured to the sound of the beat it was almost hypnotic.

I was aghast to find that our venue had been disturbed by Dry Riser or as the chap who said he was the manager described them Dry F****ng Riser Mate.

To my shock and horror there were a group of young musicians playing on the stage in what seemed to me an inebriated condition.

The lead singer yelled F**k Tuesday, I assumed the title of his next ditty but that was not the case.

Apparently this was some sort of reference to not feeling to good in the morning following this sort of alcoholic excess.

Sadly as I tried to leave I was overcome by the fumes from the breath of the bassist as he jumped from the stage yelling another obscenity, this resulted in my five year abstinence being blown away in one blast of air and I got the old queasy desire for a drink again.

Before I knew what was happening I was there with the fans in frenzy of dancing and drinking…yes I did succumb and bought a pint of lager and it was good!

Before I knew what had happened to me I was awash in friends dancing and singing to the Dry Riser beat, wrapped up in alcoholic mist blasted by a tidal wave of raw rock n roll.

I would like to say that this will never of course happen again, but I discovered that the next night they were to play in the final of a major competition at the barfly in Camden, and I will be there I will be drinking I will be having a good time!

I am now additcted to Dry Riser, a far more challenging addiction that my previous ones for this combines the booze and the beat… I fear I shall not recover this time.

Let this be a warning to you all don’t listen to Dry Riser THEY ARE JUST TOO ADICTIVE.

We are about to record our new single for self release,we will be in the studios over the coming week, one review of the demo of the song said "this must surely be the turning point for this band,a really great debut single"

Dublin Castle Camden 25/9/06

Was it just my imagination, is this reality.

Surely my eyes did not deceive me, there at the Dublin Castle in Camden

Crammed into a post-box of an amphitheatre through the narrowest of entrances, I worked my to the stage from whence the sound came, and there I saw I heard I felt the beat of the new Indie band Dry Riser.

This is no ordinary band; tie my yellow ribbon round an old oak tree! And take me to the river! Put me on my Mustang Sally and Lay me down.

In all my years as a gynaecology student I have never seen anything as sexual and seldom felt as engorged by any rhythm as the opening number, you must get” Head for Christmas” if you don’t it will be your loss, find it try it buy it! What a sound it makes.

This and the repetitive but entrancing Echo, (something I am used to in my work) took hours to get from my mind after the show, its not always good to take your work home with you. I know in the past some people have missed things, when I have taken bits home, but how can you avoid it when it is so addictive as the Pulsating rhythms of Dry Riser.

Lead Vocalist Nik Bolanesque Hair and Gyrations, mixed with Matts pounding Bass and swaying hips driven along by Jacks Relentless beating Drums reminded of my early days at Uni, watching the girls shower through a peephole, it was that exciting.

Come to think of it I now understand how I ended up in this line of work!

Just when I thought the night could get no better I bumped into Alison Steadman of stage and screen fame, who had also come to see a band “The Distressors” who took the stage around 10pm,I didn’t get a chance to talk at length with Alison whose work I have admired for some time. I explained I was in theatre also and we swapped a story or two, although she seemed a little uncomfortable at mine, before the hypnotic sound of The Distressors with the haunting vocals of lead singer Rae took over the auditorium.

If I was forced watch these two bands through a letterbox in a crouched position for an hour I would be more than willing, taking my work home again!

A fantastic show at an excellent venue, I hope I can see both bands in the same night again, if I can stand the excitement.

The Old Bull and Gate “the return”

Kentish Town 09/11/06

There I was, in Kentish town nowhere near Kent at all, expecting to see and possibly purchase a bull or two.

Imagine my disappointment to find that there was no market and worse still no bulls, my old heifer wont be happy I can tell you.

I stopped for quick refreshment before commencing my return to the old country and my smallholding.

I entered the bar and was greeted by some fine Irish hospitality “what do you fecking want” which I understood to mean would you like a drink?

When I heard a sound almost primal in its origins coming from the gent’s toilet.

With pint in hand I wandered toward the sound, into one door and straight out through another where I found a large hall a gathering crowd, and what I now know to be the indie rock gods that are Dry Riser!

I was transfixed not since My Bessie doubled her milk yield have I been so excited by what I saw and heard and felt.

More amazing to me was I seemed to have found some kind London ritual which apparently takes place almost nightly its called a gig, and boy were we gigging,

Dry Riser were pumping out the tunes faster than my milking machine on full throttle, the opening number is a tune worth the entrance fee alone, although I don’t know how I will get the ink from the door stamp of me Sunday best shirts cuff, I might just go back when the Risers are on again and have the other side stamped.

As I began to watch the pagan gyrating and dancing I felt quite at home, and merrily joined in hoping I wasn’t the one meant for the wicker man at the end.

I felt an awakening in my soul as I listened to the boys pound out the beat, Paralyse Your Mind, the singer was chanting and they did – and I could nothing about it, other than buy it when its released, which it surely will be.

As I looked round me I saw celebrities from the world of TV strutting what they said was their stuff, Ashley Hames from sin Cities, was there and glad of the photo opportunity presented to him to be pictured with the Dry Riser Boys and management and of course the fact he could keep his clothes on.

I also saw Phil Daniels of east enders fame, and of course” Park Life” Blur Fame, although he was keeping a lower profile than Ash, But its safe to say that all were getting it down and dirty to the beat.

I will be at the next gig, which I believe is just along the road at the Dublin Castle Camden, in 2 weeks 25^th September.

I have found something better than mating my hieffers, watching Dry Riser, and I don’t need steps to do it.

I found myself out for a quite drink in Soho on Sunday and wandered into the spice in Cambridge circus.

On obtaining a small beer I heard a furore coming from the music bar and decided to take a look at what the fuss was about.

There I discovered playing to an enthusiastic crowd Dry Riser, now as some one more in tune with group sex rather than a groups set, I am unaccustomed to writing anything like a review.

However, in the dimly lit downstairs bar, I found a band whose penetration into the mainstream must be inevitable, they covered the attending masses in a sheath of sound, from the opening barnstormer of a track Head for Christmas, into the driving almost sexual rhythms of Black sands, and the dirty Lay down where I sensed a south American almost Peruvian entry in the drumming.

Tearing on through two encores, they pulsated, gyrated and whipped the crowd into a frenzy, the sexual posturing of the lead singer, swaying hips of the bass player and the dirty beat of the drummer left an audience wet with excitement.

I believe they will be playing this venue again and I for one will be there, I may try to catch the shows at the Bull and Gate, or the Dublin Castle to get another dose.

If they release a single I hope its head for Christmas, because that’s certainly what I want on my list of things I must have.

Hoxton Bar and Kitchen Hoxton square 21/8/06

A great night’s music was heard at an excellent venue, Dry Riser headlined on their debut at Hoxton to an enthusiastic crowd.

The rhythms were tight and the beat drove on in the normal Dry Riser Style.

To those of who haven’t seen Dry Riser yet I suggest you catch them soon, and I would recommend this venue as a good place to start.

The set included Black Sands, Paralyse your mind, and the new Head for Christmas, which really has something, it’s a foot stomping fist clenching beast of a tune.

Who says unsigned acts are unsigned because they aren’t good, enough-not me, I heard enough good material at Hoxton to know the only problem unsigned bands have is getting heard by a label.

UP ALL NIGHT @ THE MILLER

03/08/06

Mysterious whispers were afoot when Leeds band Tsuba rose to the top like a firework, peaked at the Astoria, then failed to detonate like a moisturised twig. It was, infact, the morning after the packed out show that the band became a non-band without so much as an explanation, leaving tears in eyes and "what the fecks" in mouths. Not giving anything away, the group re-recruited, holed themselves up in a World War Two bunker, grew fuzzy beards and reinvented themselves on a diet of acid and earl grey tea. And tonight! For one night only! The results are unveiled in the deceptively pub like (but actually

reverbtastic) environment of The Miller, and the results shall be known, ye Gods, as DRY RISER.

First impressions are of a band with big daddy ideas: 'Guess We Noticed Straight Away' begins with tiptoe-on-the-edge tension before giving out to glam stomping and a general feeling of 'let's save the world before it's too late'. It is the perverse sound of Muse discovering subtlety and scoring a 007 film. Speaking of soundtracks, 'Black Sand' could have slotted into the Donnie Darko LP, being a tune that hints at doom, destiny, and the mysterious things that lurk just out of reach of your peripheral vision. Well, you know what I mean.

So Dry Riser are "one of those damn rock opera bands" huh? Well, not exactly. Whilst it's not their speciality to get the audience up, down and dogging on the dancefloor, they do proceed to wheel out the disco drum beat on 'Dice Man'. My problem with this particular beat is that it's fast becoming the number one cliché of Noughties. Rock band play rock. Rock band incorporate the beat. Hey presto! Rock band becomes Dance-Rock band. It's to the mopping away of sweat then, that singer Nick Ledgard injects the song with enough Sex Laws-era Beck to drive over the cliché. And reverse back onto it.

Dry Riser are already attracting the big boys of the record industry (Ronnie Wood's manager is here tonight, strangely) so let's hope they don't get peddled into sticking a piano on stage and becoming Keane mutants. Because what we've heard tonight- sci fi lullabies constructed with care- will do nicely, thankyou.
